Joe Thomas and Jean Brannen (Oct. 2001)

Joe Thomas Brannen was the first child of Joe and Hazel Brannen. He was born August 12, 1925. After a year-long battle with cancer, he passed away on October 1, 2002, four months and one day after Mom passed away.  I'm still grieving his loss as I type this (10/4/02).

He graduated from Pennington High School and got a degree from Texas A&M in Agronomy. After teaching for a few years, he went into business with his brother and brother-in-law in Pennington, Texas. Their business, as referenced many times elsewhere on this website, was named Brannen & Walker Farm Supply.

On June 3, 1949, he married Jean Gordon (born 4/3/28) of Woodville, Texas. Her parents were Fred Brown Gordon and Lucille Baskin Gordon. She (my mother) graduated from Kirby High School in Woodville (at the incredibly young age of 16), then from Stephen F. Austin College at the age of 19, and she subsequently taught in the Texas public schools for many years before retiring.  Mom was suddenly taken from us and passed away May 31, 2002.   She was a devout Christian and we know she is now in a better place.  But we still love and miss her very much.

Joe and his partners (his brother and brother-in-law) sold their business on 1/1/80 and Joe moved into a successful real estate career in Crockett.   In addition to their children and and grandchildren, he and Mom enjoyed the slow pace of life at their lake home on Houston County Lake the last few years.   He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was very proud of his Masonic activities.

Joe and Jean had two children:
