John Richard Brannen

John Richard Brannen was the fourth child of Joe and Hazel Brannen. He was born October 9, 1933. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 50's. Upon returning from the service, he entered business with his father, Joe Brannen in Pennington, Texas. Subsequently, he, his brother and his brother-in-law took over the business from his father. On February 15, 1958 he married Betty Joyce Roe (born 7/23/39) of Lovelady, Texas. Betty's parents were Willie and Gladys Roe.

Johnny was one of the owners of Brannen & Walker Farm Supply in Pennington, Texas until the business was sold on January 1, 1980. After that time he worked at the Houston County Electric Co-op in Crockett, Texas, concentrating on right-of-way acquisitions, until his retirement at the end of 1998. Betty worked for many years for the Bill Dabney surveying office in Crockett, and has now been retired for quite a while.

Johnny and Betty lived on a ranch near Pennington for many years, but in the 80's, they bought another ranch and built another home, about 5 miles southeast of Crockett, adjacent to U.S. Highway 287. Johnny still spends a lot of time with his cattle and owns several different tracts of ranch land in the area.
